Payback is a bitch

My time in London is coming to a close.  I leave my fair city on Sunday and am off to other adventures.  For the past 15 months I have had the pleasure, and pain, of putting up with all the quarks of London.  Building inside me, my pent-up frustration has started to come out, and I’m choosing to express myself in the most passive-aggressive ways so as to fit in with the locals.  Passive-aggression is like a sport here, I swear to you.  It’s amazing really how so many people can hold in their rage, remaining calm on the outside while the fire burns within and later ignites after a few too many drinks at the pubs.

So … in the past week I have: Read the rest of this entry

Let It Snow

For weeks I have been walking around London in no less than 3 sweaters, 2 pairs of pants (trousers for my British readers), 3 pairs of socks, and gloves.  Having sent the majority of my winter gear back to the US, I am now paying the price.  Waking this morning to fresh falling snow (beautiful but cold) the Me v. The Elements war is over … winner: Earth.

On the upside, Christmas is officially here.  Happy holidays everyone!

It’s Official

I am happy to report that after 3 years of planning, 1 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, 5 lodging changes , 12 months of study, countless books read, and 3 months of not so patiently waiting … I now have a MA in Gender Studies; and with a ‘merit’ award thank you very much.  Phew.

Whiny Little Bitch

My friend, the lovely and talented Ms. Naima Khan, has written a hilarious guest post, which I am going to call The Rama Blog, on an up-and-coming blog, Stuff White Brits Like (Are there enough commas in that sentence?).  Check it!

Please note that this site is meant to poke fun not reinforce stereotypes or cause offense.  So if you feel yourself getting offended, stop being a Whiny Little Bitch, take a step back and have a good laugh at yourself.  PS: There’s the mother site to this one, Stuff White People Like, target: White, yuppie Americans.  Pure gold, all of it!

Fame

People, I am in The Guardian.

I’m spending my final days in the UK working for the UK Women’s Budget Group (WBG).  We are a group of 200+ academics and activists that responded, using a gendered lens, to national budgetary policy in the UK.  We’ve recently started working with Baroness Hollis (like a senator in the US) on the Women’s Income Network.  Long story short, I am making my mark with the help of great mentors.  Together we are trying to fight for the voiceless and marginal in the UK; a cause I think many can/should get behind.
